Perturbationist offensive carried out on 28 August 2021 at the Bourse de Commerce / Pinault Collection, Paris, France

The "Wailing Wall" Offensive is a device conceived by the artist duo, Gilbert Coqalane and Djan Silveberg, within the Bourse de Commerce / Pinault Collection, Paris, in consultation with the CDRAO*.

"Based around a physical intervention by artists in the Rotonde, the large central cylinder of the building redesigned by the architect Tadao Ando, this project is in keeping with the perturbationist practices of Gilbert Coqalane and Djan Silveberg. After the group of participating artists deposited an "artistic lament" in the holes of the concrete wall that delimits it, they stood in the Rotunda, facing the walls, and adopted a behaviour resembling a form of prayer or meditation, before dispersing, abandoning their artistic laments to the attention of the Most High.

Through this Offensive, Gilbert Coqalane and Djan Silveberg wish to underline the paradoxes of installing in a French public heritage site a selection of works of art owned by one of the richest men in the world, thus allowing, with the help of the State and public subsidies, to increase the legitimacy of the artists exhibited and to reinforce the market value of his private collection and the influence of his group of companies. They also wish to reintroduce, through the intervention of the artists taking part in this intervention, a part of civil society and an engagement in the public space in the heart of this sacred den, erected as a veritable temple of contemporary art and support for the starisation of a few elected officials. Finally, they call on all volunteers, artists or not, to appropriate this new practice of the "Wailing Wall" offensive and to reproduce it in the future."
