intrusion

Intervention carried out on 19 May 2012 within the "Intense Proximity" Triennial (main curator: Okwui Enwezor) held from 20 April to 26 August 2012 at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, France

This intervention, entitled "Intrusion", consisted in adding eight cartels of different installation works, scattered throughout the "Intense Proximity" Triennial at the Palais de Tokyo. The labels were made identically to the original models of the Palais de Tokyo, using the exact dimensions (width, length, thickness), the type of support, the colour, the logo, the typography and the positioning of the text. The numbering of the labels from 152 to 159 was added to the existing numbering which stopped at 151. Some of the artwork labels were designed for a specific location within the exhibition; for example, label N°156 "Naked Invisible Man Masturbating" was designed to be displayed opposite Jean-Luc Moulène's large-format photographs of Amsterdam prostitutes.

Conceived as a challenge to the institutional framework of the museum and a questioning of the limits of the work of art, I use the term cartel-work for this intervention because its formal nature as a cartel, its intrusive application within the exhibition, its specific title and positioning are elements that, in my opinion, characterise them as artistic artefacts in their own right.

This interventionwas the subject of :

- A reproduction in three copies (plus one out of stock) of the eight cartels of works assembled in a 45 x 75 cm frame

- The production of photographs and a video for documentation purposes using a mobile phone (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jySot8q2_1M)
