Temenos: In ancient Greece, a sacred space constituting a sanctuary, when it is delimited by an enclosure called a peribola, which can take several forms.
"As soon as something is identified as being of a religious nature, it is no longer part of reality: holy water is not just water, even if there is nothing to distinguish a sample of it from an ordinary quantity of water. Consequently, a logical parallel can be drawn between what delimits a sacred space and what delimits this specific enclosure within which events are officially classified as belonging to art."
